I don't like playing in any tournament that has rebuys or add-ons. I don't look on this as poker but has a way for richer player to be able to buy their way into the money. I prefer when you're out you're out. With a normal tournament you know knock how much it's going to cost you up front. With rebuys and add-ons it's not unusal to have the cost triple.
I'm looking forward to playing this forum's buyin tournaments but I will not play in add-ons or rebuys. I hope the forums stops offering them.

Good post! I can tell you have given some thought to this subject. Re-buy tournaments are teasers and do generally encourage loose play prior to the last re-buy opportunity.
I would like to refer you to our website www.VIPPokerStop.com and the article about Poker rooms 202A. Early in Re-buys and Freerolls with large fields the software is definitely set for a higher number of quality hands across the Board. The key to being successful in all types of Poker Tournaments anywhere any time, is having a pregame strategy.

If your resources are limited of course it would be discouraging to enter and have rebuys or addons........if you feel that way, then by all means dont play those type - there are usually plenty of freezeout type tournaments to enter and of course to suit all members, i am sure the forum will have some of each. I have entered both types and it was depending on my mood and my cards of late lol. I dont enter a tournament that I feel is beyond my capabilities as far as financial resources, and again depending on the cards and my "feeling" of the flow, i always plan on about a total of 3 times I will rebuy or 2 rebuys and 1 addon if i feel I can make the money. Then again, being a woman, and blonde, I can change my mind at any time and do none of the above lol :

i'm not a big fan of rebuys myself but thats because i'm just getting past the bankroll building stage right now. i don't play them because it's not economically sensible to my bankroll. i agree that play is very loose compared to a normal tourny, but its not a richest player wins tourny imo. i just think you have to have a certain strategy going in, every form of poker is different and you need to adjust playing style accordingly. a ring game strategy won't work in tournys and vice versa.

I don't play in tourneys with rebuys and addons
People are reckless and play long shots because they know if they lose they can rebuy
So while Im trying to advance in the tourney inch by inch someone else is going all in every other hand
I save myself a lot of stress by just staying out these tourneys

Rebuys and Addons are what they are.
Some like them. Some do not like them.
To those who like them, rebuy your way into a victory and good luck.
To those that do not like them, avoid them cause they may frustrate you at times to no end.
Enjoy the game and Good Luck.

I agree with Jolub for all the same reasons. I have played in live tourneys with rebuys and will never do it again. The person with the most money ends up winning. When there are rebuys alot of players go all in all the time hoping to double or triple up but it discourages other players.

Actually, rebuys are a good opportunity to take away a lot of the rich guys chips for free. When he rebuys that increases the prize pool, then you can take his chips again, and so on :-)
I almost never need to rebuy (or addon) in those tourneys, yet I find they are the easiest tourneys of all to cash-in. In one rebuy tourney (Omaha hi-lo no-limit, all-in or fold) the rich player must have shoved it all-in and had to rebuy 40 times or more. Me and one other guy never had to rebuy once. Now I have a nice bankroll at that site, just from that one tourney :-)

good post akorps, there are going to be times when you will not have to rebuy just by playing tight and taking advantage of loose play. entered a $2 satellite saturday with the intention of rebuying 2 or 3 times and certainly adding on at break. i finished the hour 2nd in chips with no rebuys, didn't even add on because it was irrelevant to my stack. now the $30 buy in i won is also rebuys and add ons, not really bankrolled at that site for it but will try to do it without rebuying but will spend $ on the add on.

I don't like R/A tourneys either.
They change the way everyone plays and favor the player who's willing to throw money away on very weak hands.
Just my opinion .
